The Elixir of Life - Treasure Case 2016

The Tomorrowland 2016 Treasure Case was created for the festival’s “The Elixir of Life” edition. Rather than simply sending the admission bracelet in ordinary packaging, Tomorrowland presented it as part of an elaborate fantasy-inspired object, extending the story of the festival into the visitor’s home. Tomorrowland still describes its Treasure Cases as the special presentation in which the personal festival Bracelet is delivered.

The 2016 case is particularly distinctive. As shown in the reference photographs, the exterior forms a dark blue cylindrical case, decorated with intricate gold illustrations, handwritten-style notes and scientific/alchemical imagery. A small antique-style metal clasp keeps the cylinder closed. Once released, the case unfolds into an unusual tiered, cascading construction, revealing several circular compartments decorated with scenes and symbols connected to the Elixir of Life theme.

Inside, the different sections originally presented the festival bracelet together with the themed accessories. The photographed example includes the cream-coloured leather-look Tomorrowland bracelet with its decorative Tomorrowland emblem, as well as a bronze-coloured, pocket-watch-style pendant. Opening this pendant reveals a pale solid substance surrounded by the words “LOVE TOMORROW – UNITE FOREVER – LIVE TODAY.” Contemporary collector references identify this accessory as containing a solid fragrance or perfume balm.

Also visible are circular cards carrying “The Elixir of Life – Tomorrowland” branding and instructions. Together with the gold botanical, celestial and laboratory-inspired artwork, these details connect the Treasure Case directly to the mythology of the 2016 festival.
